Release 8.5.2 Improvements in Lotus iNotes

News about upcoming release 8.5.2 are becoming more clear. Last week, Lotus team shared some possible improvements about iNotes 8.5.2 in Open Mic event.

  • There will be some performance improvements editing (New, Reply, Forward, etc.) messages.
  • Sametime 8.5 integration will be added (Meeting support from calendar, web awareness, chat, contact list and business card integration). However, some features will be tech-preview.
  • New messages will be blocked when over quota.
  • Users will have ability to mark subject as confidential.
  • Ultra-light theme will be available in Android on Google Nexus One. Droid access is being evaluated.
  • Interface will be bidi-enabled.
  • My favorite one: There will be an MSI package for iNotes Web Controls (at last!)
  • Lotus Live Notes Integration will be available.


Of course, no need to remind that these improvements are in progress for development. They are not guaranteed yet.

Since Lotus Connections and Quickr are very hot products in IBM Sales teams, I have read and seen too many presentations, reports or sales documents until now. Frankly, I found many of them useless. Because all vendors, including IBM try to sell social software products as 'yet another corporate software'. They think that it is a matter of 'believing or not' the wind of social software. ID Vault Upload/Download Problems

ID Vault is one of the most important features introduced in release 8.5. It provides remarkable opportunities to solve some annoying problems of system administrators.

Administrators who implement ID Vault feature, mostly deals with ID Download/Upload issues. Therefore I have decided to create this post to share my experiences about these issues. Since ID Vault is a very new feature, there are lots of problems specific to notes and domino version. As you read the rest of the post, you will notice that getting the latest version of the client and server software (8.5.1 FP1) is a very good idea.
