When I chat with Lotus Professionals around, I see that many are busy with their daily agendas. Most cannot concentrate on developing their expertise. I even know Lotus professionals working in large companies and dealing with non-Lotus systems, which seems abnormal to me.
We prefer using smart upgrade during our large deployments. I would like to summarize some issues with the mechanism in this little post. I would be happy if you also share your experiences.

Always saying that we will have disk space savings around 30% using DAOS. But in some specific cases, the feature causes remarkable extra disk usage.
About a month ago, we have implemented DAOS for a customer with 6-7 servers. Yesterday, we have been surprised analyzing some servers to see how much space gained by DAOS feature.
ID Vault is one of the most important features introduced in release 8.5. It provides remarkable opportunities to solve some annoying problems of system administrators.
Administrators who implement ID Vault feature, mostly deals with ID Download/Upload issues. Therefore I have decided to create this post to share my experiences about these issues. Since ID Vault is a very new feature, there are lots of problems specific to notes and domino version. As you read the rest of the post, you will notice that getting the latest version of the client and server software (8.5.1 FP1) is a very good idea.
